The conditions in Qinqdao appear to be pretty much as expected: hot, light, shifty winds and strong currents. So, no surprises. That these conditions are challenging was evident from the results of the other classes where, for example, last year's 49er World Champions dropped from 1st to 9th after registering scores of 14-15-15. Damn.The results from the first day of racing for the Laser class were not different, with some...interesting results. At the top is Murdoch - no surprises here, he is #2 in the world. In 6th place is Goodison, with a 15-2, Vasilij is 12th with 24-4, Geritzer 14th with 28-6, Del Solar 3-34, Muslubas 4-42. It's as if the two races were sailed on different days in vastly different conditions!
Of course, there is a long way to go and Tom, down in 23rd, should take heart. But with only one discard, he's got his work cut out.
